Google Pixel Fold might have a better display than the Z Fold 5
Latest News- Updates 10th Apr
According to The Elec, it looks like the Z Fold 5 will sport Samsung Display’s M12 material set (the material used to create OLED panels) for OLED displays, similar to what was available on the Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4 and the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. Now, Samsung is working on the M13 and M14 material sets, but Google will get the first taste of the new technology.
The Pixel Fold will reportedly use the M13 material sets, compared to the Z Flip 5 and the Z Fold 5, which will use only the M12 material sets, similar to their predecessors. It would be strange for Google to opt for the M13 sets, as the company isn’t usually ahead of the game regarding components. And it’d be odd for Samsung to use the M12 sets if it knows Google’s displays are ahead of its own devices.
The Elec also indicates that Apple’s iPhone 15 models will use M12-based displays. This is an upgrade for base iPhone users as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus used the M11 sets; however, iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max already use the M12-based displays.
The rumours also suggest Samsung Display is building a custom set dubbed ‘M14’ solely for Apple and its 16th-gen devices. However, in 2023 Samsung will reportedly build four displays for the iPhone 15 models with assistance from LG display for the two Pro models.
The Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are expected to launch in August, the iPhone 15 models in September, and the Pixel Fold could release sometime this Spring.
The Google Pixel Fold will reportedly come in a 256GB storage capacity. The first-gen Google foldable will cost €1,700 ($1,825) in the European Union.
Updates-19th March
Recently, an Android enthusiast recognized the Pixel Fold design in the hands of a Googler on a train and provided the somewhat blurry image above. This was a signal that Google might be ready to unveil the handset.
If WinFuture’s report is accurate, then Google might launch the Pixel Fold at I/O 2023, right alongside the reasonably priced Pixel 7a.
The German blog learned from a retailer that Google will give the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a an early June launch. The handset might hit stores in Germany as soon as early June. The handset might launch in two colors, Carbon and Porcelain.
The Pixel Fold will reportedly come in a 256GB storage capacity. The first-gen Google foldable will cost €1,700 ($1,825) in the European Union. That’s slightly cheaper than Smsung’s €1,799 ($1,931) Galaxy Fold 4 price. But the Pixel Fold is more expensive than the €1,599 ($1,716) Honor Magic VS.
WinFuture also listed the purported price and colors for the Pixel 7a. The handset will cost around €500 ($536) in the region. The affordable flagship will come in a single capacity (128GB) and four colors: Arctic Blue, Carbon, Cotton, and Jade.
Like the Pixel Fold, the Pixel 7a should launch in early June. With I/O 2023 set for mid-May, we’d expect Google to unveil the new A-series Pixel at the show if this leak is accurate.
We’ll remind you that the European prices already include tax. If the prices in this leak are accurate, then all EU countries will have similar prices for the two Google phones, assuming Google brings the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a to all of them.
The foldable mobile phone from Google has a production plan that seems a little late.
Updates – 26th Jan
However, it is a positive thing that Google will compete with Samsung in the foldable field. Unlike Google, Samsung began mass production of components for the Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 in May 2022.
The company started the production of the final product about a month later which is in June 2022. By August 2022, this device was officially released.
The Elec also hints that the Pixel Fold’s screen might not be as good as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Fold 4.
In addition, there are reports that Google might not use the foldable screen technology that debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This means that the thickness of the Google Pixel Fold will certainly be thicker than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The report also claims that the Pixel Fold is unlikely to support a stylus.

According to a notable tipster Roland Quandt, the foldable Pixel smartphone is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2023.

Instead, the upcoming foldable smartphone from Google is tipped to come with a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor. The Google Pixel Fold is also said to come equipped with a 12MP Sony IMX386 ultra-wide camera and an 8MP Sony IMX355s front-facing camera for selfies.

After the launch of Pixel 7 series earlier this year, Google is gearing up to launch its first foldable smartphone. The new foldable device will be reportedly introduced alongside the Pixel tablet in 2023. The foldable device from Google will likely be priced at USD 1,799 which is about Rs 1,45, 697.
According to a report in GSMArena, the new device dubbed as ‘Pixel Fold’ is expected to be launched at Google’s annual developer conference I/O, which is usually held in May.
The Pixel Fold is likely to come in Chalk and Obsidian black colour options. Meanwhile, several reports have suggested that the device will come with performance and cameras seen on the existing line of Pixel flagship devices.
Given Google works to make Android friendly for foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, there’s an argument that the search giant doesn’t need to make its own folding phone. But an idealized version of a foldable phone from Google’s perspective is still a tantalizing prospect.

Google Pixel Fold name: Pixel Notepad?
According to a report in 9to5Google, it’s possible that the Google Pixel Fold could be called the Pixel Notepad. If this proves true, we would expect Google to offer stylus support, but that remains to be seen. The same report says that Google has considered other names, such as Logbook, but hopefully that’s out of the running.
For now, we’ll refer to the device as the Pixel Fold, as that’s the moniker most rumor mongers are using.
