Elon Musk’s SpaceX launched “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon” in the first quarter of 2022, and the company will accept meme-inspired cryptocurrencies as a full payment of the monthly payload.
Cryptocurrency: Musk’s SpaceX to launch dogecoin moon mission
Mr Musk’s tweets in recent months have helped to turn the once-obscure digital currency, which was started as a social media joke, into the world’s fourth-biggest cryptocurrency.
It has soared by more than 800% over the last month, with its total market value rising above $70bn, according to cryptocurrency data tracker CoinGecko.com.
However, dogecoin lost more than a third of its price on Sunday, after Mr Musk called it a “hustle” while he was hosting the Saturday Night Live comedy sketch television show.
In February, electric carmaker Tesla, where Mr Musk is chief executive, said it bought $1.5bn worth of bitcoin and was planning to accept the cryptocurrency as payment for its vehicles.
The announcement was seen as another major step towards the mainstream acceptance of bitcoin and helped to boost the price of the cryptocurrency to a fresh record high of nearly $62,000.
Last month, Tesla announced that its profits for the first three months of the year were $438m, up from $16m last year, ,bolstered by sales of Bitcoin and environmental credits.
Mr Musk also revealed on Saturday Night Live that he has Asperger’s syndrome.
People with Asperger’s interpret the environment around them differently to other people.
It is thought to be the first time Mr Musk has spoken about his condition.
To the Moon
Geometric Energy Corporation announced a mission funded by Dogecoin on Sunday. This was confirmed by the SpaceX communications team in an email to the reporter. The monetary value of the mission has not been disclosed.
DOGE-1 will fly a 40-kilogram cubic satellite as the payload of a Falcon 9 rocket, and Geometric Energy Corporation will “acquire lunar space intelligence from sensors and cameras with integrated communications and computing systems.” It states.
In a statement, SpaceX’s vice president of commercial sales, Tom Ochinero, said DOGE-1 “demonstrates the application of cryptocurrencies across Earth orbit and lays the foundation for interplanetary commerce.”
“I’m excited to launch DOGE-1 on the moon!” Ichiro said.
The Falcon 9 rocket will begin the Transporter 1 mission in January 2021.
Musk, a tweet from April Fool’s Day, previously announced plans for the company.
“SpaceX will literally put Dogecoin on the literal moon,” Musk wrote.

The DOGE-1 mission begins after the self-proclaimed “Dogefather” Mask debuts as the host of “Saturday Night Live”. Despite references to cryptocurrencies,
the price of Dogecoin plummeted during its emergence, falling below 50 cents.
Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency that started out as a goofy meme and is now a somewhat more valuable goofy meme, has been on the rise lately,
Elon Musk is the coin’s highest-profile supporter,
Tweeting Dogecoin memes, referring to himself as the “Dogefather,” and hyping it up (sort of) on Saturday Night Live.
Investors like to talk about sending Dogecoin’s value “to the Moon,” thus, we’re getting this silly stunt about sending a satellite named DOGE-1 paid to Musk’s company in Dogecoin to the Moon.
Given all that, SpaceX includes in the announcement the exact quote one might assume Musk mandated,
the company includes: “We’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!” said SpaceX vice president of commercial sales Tom Ochinero.
For SpaceX, the announcement will also be made on the day the company sets a new record for the Falcon 9 series rockets.
After putting another batch of Starlink satellites into orbit, SpaceX landed a Falcon 9 rocket booster for the tenth time.
This is the benchmark that Mask has previously described as the key to advances in rocket reuse.
“It is designed to make more than 10 flights between each flight without modification,” Musk told reporters in May 2018.
“We, [Falcon 9] Boosters can order at least 100 flights before retiring. Maybe more. “
