Rockstar Games Teases Possible GTA 6 PC version-Latest
Take-Two Interactive’s CEO recently hinted at a future PC release for GTA 6, explaining that the growing PC gaming market makes it too good an opportunity to miss.
Currently, GTA 6 is only confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in Fall 2025.

Rockstar’s History
So, GTA 6 is coming out on consoles first. Big surprise, right? Rockstar’s done this before with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. PC gamers are used to the drill—waiting a year, maybe two, sometimes even longer (remember that one game?). It’s a bummer, but not exactly unexpected.
Why does Rockstar do this? That’s the million-dollar question. Some folks think it’s all about the money—getting people to buy it on console, then again on PC later.
Others say it’s to make sure the PC version is top-notch. But then you remember GTA IV’s PC launch…and well, let’s just say that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

So, why the console-first approach? It’s probably a bit of everything.
Think about it: Rockstar games are HUGE. Developing for a couple of consoles with the same hardware is way simpler than trying to make it work smoothly on a million different PCs.
It’s easier to focus resources that way. But let’s be real, a PC version is where the real money is. And even PlayStation, who used to be super strict about exclusives, is now bringing their games to PC even more. So, it’s just a matter of time, right?
CEO Grilled on Decision
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick faced the PC question head-on in a recent interview with IGN. He was directly asked if launching GTA 6 without a PC version was a mistake.
Zelnick explained that while they do support PC gaming and recognize its importance, each release is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
He used the simultaneous launch of Civilization 7 on PC and Switch as an example of their PC support.
Regarding Rockstar’s releases, Zelnick noted their established pattern: “Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms.” He also shared a compelling statistic: PC sales can represent more than 40% of a game’s revenue.
Considering the massive popularity of GTA RP, which is sure to boost GTA 6 sales just as it did for GTA 5, a PC release seems highly likely.
As for how Take-Two views PC, Strauss said, “We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue. Of course, there will be a new console generation.”
Another small comment worth mentioning is that Zelnick thinks “I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend” when it comes to console sales.
These tariffs are the ones implemented by President Trump. You can read more about their impact here.
What Else Has Been Said?
Strauss Zelnick has done a number of different interviews this past week, including one where he shut down concerns over AI being used to make the graphics and the game causing gun violence.
You can read all about that here.
Plus, he talked about how there is still room for GTA 6 to slip to 2026 but is confident in the game coming out in several months time.
His company’s share price hit an all-time high on Monday following that confidence in GTA 6 launching in Fall 2025, among other things. If you’d like to learn more about the situation, check out our article here.
